Questions we get every week

Which EV charger do I need for my car?
Almost every EV sold in North America accepts Level 2 charging through a J1772 or NACS connector, so the question is really about your panel rather than your car. A Pulse 40 on a 50 A circuit adds roughly 30 miles of range per hour, which covers the overwhelming majority of daily driving. Step up to the Pulse 48 only if your vehicle's onboard charger can accept 11.5 kW and your panel can carry a 60 A circuit.
Do I need an electrician?
For anything hardwired — Pulse 48, Pulse Duo, Surge DC30, Wave 6000, Hybrid 8K and all Vault systems — yes, and in most jurisdictions a permit as well. The plug-in Pulse 40 can be installed by the homeowner if a suitable NEMA 14-50 receptacle already exists and is on a dedicated circuit. When in doubt, have it inspected; charging equipment runs at full load for hours at a time and it will find a marginal termination.
Can my panel handle a 48 A charger?
That depends on your existing load, not just on the panel's rating. The honest way to find out is a load calculation per NEC Article 220, ideally backed by measured data from a Sense monitor rather than the nameplate estimates the calculation allows. If the headroom is not there, dynamic load management on the Pulse 48 is usually cheaper than a service upgrade.
What does the status light mean?
Solid green: ready. Pulsing green: charging or discharging normally. Solid amber: connected but waiting on a schedule or on load management. Pulsing amber: reduced power due to temperature or site load. Red: a fault requiring attention — the app and the local web interface both report a specific fault code, and that code is the first thing our support team will ask for.
Do I have to pay a subscription?
No. Every 565 Energy product's core functionality — charging, metering, inverting, storing — works without an account and without an internet connection. The app, the local web interface, CSV export and the REST API are included. Optional paid services exist for commercial fleet operators who want managed OCPP hosting and driver billing, and those are quoted separately.
How do firmware updates work?
Connected units check for updates and install them during an idle window, never mid-session. You can defer or disable automatic updates entirely from the app. Release notes are published for every firmware version, and previous versions remain available if a rollback is needed.
My inverter shuts down under load. Why?
Nine times out of ten it is the DC side rather than the inverter. Undersized battery cable, a loose lug, a corroded terminal or a battery that cannot deliver the current all present the same way: voltage sags under load, the inverter sees low-voltage cutoff and shuts down to protect the battery. Measure voltage at the inverter terminals while the load is applied — if it drops several volts, the problem is upstream.
Can I mix 565 Energy gear with other brands?
Generally yes. The chargers speak OCPP 1.6J, the commercial monitors speak Modbus, and the inverters accept standard battery communication protocols. The one place to be careful is closed-loop BMS communication between a third-party inverter and a Vault battery — send us the inverter model and we will tell you whether it is on the validated list.

What is covered, in plain language.

565 Energy warrants its products against defects in materials and workmanship, to the original purchaser, from the date of delivery.

  • Three years on EV chargers, amp monitors and power inverters
  • Ten years on Vault battery modules, including a capacity guarantee
  • Capacity guarantee: Vault modules retain at least 70% of rated capacity at ten years under normal cycling
  • Advance replacement on monitors and inverters during the first year
  • On-site service for commercial cabinets and containerized systems

Not covered: damage from improper installation, modification, abuse, lightning or other acts of nature, or operation outside published specifications. Commercial and containerized systems carry project-specific terms issued with the quotation. Full warranty text is provided with each product and is available on request.

Starting a warranty claim

  1. Email support@565energy.com with the model and serial number.
  2. Include proof of purchase and, where applicable, the installer's name.
  3. Attach a photo of the installation and of the fault code or status light.
  4. We respond within one business day with an RMA number or a fix.
